$2 cake stand

This is a project that has so many different outcomes and uses. It's an inexpensive way to make a fancy cake stand or a creative way to present someone with baked goods. I purchased a glass plate and glass candle stick holder from the dollar tree.

 I applied krazy glue to the rim of the candle stick holder then placed it on the bottom side of the plate. I then put some plates on top of it to weigh it down to ensure that the glue would bond to the plate properly. 

I let it sit for a few hours to dry and that's it! Super easy and super cheap.

What I like about this project is that you can do this with just about any plate or size. You could even paint the candle stick holder to match the plate that you are using. If you're into baking, you can put your wrapped baked goods on this cake stand and present them the goodies this way!

Upcycled tin can lantern part 2

Hopefully you've seen my first post on the tin can lantern. Instead of painting my cans I thought I would use vinyl adhesive which I purchased from the Dollar tree. I have plenty of medium sized cans at home but wanted a large one. I found one at Big Lots for .80 which was awesome.

I will be hanging some of these lanterns around my fence post so I bought wire from Walmart for .97. Altogether this was a super cheap project. If you don't know how to make a tin can lantern please check out my previous post.

Upcycled tin can lantern

I was super excited about this project because this is something that I've never seen before. I was on Pinterest and was inspired! I have plenty of tin cans at home because we love our rice and beans! :) 

 Once you have your tin can, you want to make sure you take off all of the paper.

 If you like what's on the can you always have the option of keeping it on; it's really up to you. Next you have to fill the can with water and put it in the freezer. Once the water has turned to ice you are ready to start. 

You can either draw a design on the can or print one out, and tape it to the can. You are then going to take a nail, place it on the can and hit it with a hammer. 

You want to make sure that your holes are big enough to let ample light shine through when you have your teal light in there. Then keep pounding the nail following your design pattern. Make sure you have a towel under your can to catch all of the ice and water that may drip out of your tin can. If you wanted to hang up your lantern, you can pound two holes at the very top of the can and insert wire or ribbon to make a handle. You have the option of painting your can or adding ribbon and bows to it.

Chic coaster set

Big lots is one of my favorite stores. I went the other day looking for a glue gun but came out with two cheap coaster sets instead. Their St. Patricks inventory was on sale for 90% off. I saw a really cute coaster set that was marked down to 30 cents! So I grabbed two sets. The set even came with a holder to keep them in when not in use. Although I'm not Irish, for 30 cents I could not walk away from a great deal like that. 

After that I went to the dollar tree and picked up some items for a different project. One of those items was a vinyl adhesive. I decided that I would use this to cover the coaster set. I simply measured the coaster and cut out the appropriate size. I didn't have to worry about gluing it down because it was self-adhesive. Again, this was a very inexpensive and easy project. Now I have some chic coasters for my patio table!

$1.60 for everything!

Upcycled glass jar utensil holder

I like to be able to reuse things around the house in as many of my projects as possible. So I decided that I would use my glass jars as utensil holders and straw holders for when we have BBQs outside on the patio. It's a nice way to showcase your crafting skills and utensils at the same time. Your guests will be impressed with this project because it looks like you put some effort into entertaining. First I removed all of the packaging paper on the glass and cleaned them out. The jar that previously had kimchi in it, I let run through the dishwasher and it was good as new. I purchased a ribbon and bow set from the dollar tree.

 For the first couple of jars I used tape but the last ones I used my glue gun. I simply wrapped the ribbon around the jar and put a piece of tape to hold it in place. I then put the bow on top of it. There were two places where you could still see some white paper from the ribbon so I cut out four pieces of ribbon and glued them in place.

 For some of the jars I made simple bows instead. Altogether this was an inexpensive project and it looks great. You could even use these as tea light holders.
